Lock camp 2021

somethings that I have learned and experienced at the camp.

Participation

In the camp I came into it with the mindset that I was not going to get wet and cold. I tried going around things at the start of the camp, especially the white-water rafting. When I realised that there was no getting out of this, I just decide to participate as well as I could to make it a better experience. The white-water rafting was not a very good memory because of how cold it was, but the amazing race the next day was enjoyable because I came into it with the right mind set.

Sharing spaces

When we got back from the white-water rafting, there was another group from a different class using our fire pit in front of the ten. We let them stay and they let us use the fire that they had just made. Also, one of the groups had a larger tent with a rain cover, they let us use their space to store our chairs when it was raining, we let them boil water over our fire because there one was put out.

Teamwork

I feel like I demonstrated teamwork during the camp in multiple ways. Liam and I showed good working together during the rafting. We got out of the raft and hulled it over the rocks when we needed to, and when going down the rapids we collaborated in a way that we did tip over in the water. Although I did not show this as much, I still feel that demonstrated teamwork with new people. In the amazing race our whole team got together and planned things as a team. In that team we did not know each other very well. To get across the river we found a solution that needed the whole team to be hands on to get across.

Responsibility.

We all showed responsibility at the camp during all the activities, but the time where the most trust was put in us was in the free time and rock climbing. During the rock-climbing was the point where things could go very wrong if people were active immature. Everyone focused up and followed all the rules, while still having fun on the side rock climbing and abseiling. While in our free time and cooking with our groups, everyone had a fun time and just relaxed but no one was silly and did things that were wrong and out of order. This demonstrates that we can be responsible when people put trust on us to not do the wrong thing.

Leave no Trace

At honeymoon pool we all did a good job at leaving no trace. After cooking all our food, we did not leave any plastic wrapping at the camp site. We even picked up rubbish from people that had already stayed were we camped. Also, we did not leave any of our scraps from the birds to come and eat in the morning. After our stay at Honeymoon poll I am confident that we left the place better than we when we arrived there.

HASS+

As part of our year 10 Humanities course, we are able to research a project of our own choice, and to create an outcome to showcase at a final exhibition in Term 4 2021.

The topic that I have chosen to research is the history of computers.

Our main focus area is

  1. How computer parts are made with different materials around the world
  2. How computer have enabled crypto currencies
  3. The history of computers
  4. How does an old computer compare to a new laptop.

The steps that I have completed so far are…

  1. The computer is almost done just missing one part
  2. the timelines information is half finished

  1. The plan for continuing our project includes…
  1. finish off the computer
  2. complete researching the timeline and assemble it

Miles and I made a presentation about how biofuel is more sustainable for us humans. Over the length of the research period I learned how to communicate mathematically with my partner when we had friendly arguments. I learned that if you can present data and statistics to my partner from reliable sites you will win the debate most of the time. I have also learned that for something to be sustainable it needs to tick of multiple boxes, and that people trying you to sell you a new “sustainable product” like biofuel will go out of their way to hide their unsustainable factors.
