English reflection 2023

Give some context about your topic

Horse riding is a team sport, where you work with your horse to create beautiful movements, jump over fences, or do a cross country course. There are loads of other disciplines. I have been doing horse riding for over 8 years, so I know a lot about the sport. It started off as a little girl obsessed with horses. When I first started doing lessons, my parents wouldn’t think that I would continue. But even still to this day, I am still doing the same sport, and loving it.

Give details about your contribution

When you horse ride, some people might think that it isn’t a team sport, but it actually is. Your team member is your horse. What you have to do as a person is control the horse, mainly with your legs, to even get the horse to move in the first place. Some people think that all you do is just sit there, but they just don’t know how much energy and muscles you have to use in your thighs and legs. Horse riding also requires a lot of brain power, thinking and concentrating. You have to communicate with your horse. Verbal, yes, but you have to have clear aids when you tell the horse what to do with your body, so they follow the steps.

Describe your growth or learning

Horse riding really strengths the core, legs and inner thigh. It has helped me realise that when you clearly tell someone or something what to do, they easily understand and do it. Even when you are around horses, it is scientifically proven that the radiation of the heart beat in a horse calm the human down, and ease their mind. This year, I have achieved on learning how to ride a racehorse, and keep it calm in stressful situations. I have also done some ground work and learning how to keep a strong connection with the horse that you are with, so they can trust you fully. This year has had some ups and downs, but I have learnt a lot and grown a lot.

If you are ever feeling worried or stressed about something, just pat a horse and be around them, and you will instantly feel relieved.

This is Trent, he is a 15 year old OTTB (off the track thoroughbred) which means he used to be a racehorse when he was younger, but has retired from racing.
