In this unit for health I have learnt so much about online safety but one of the things I think is the biggest that I learnt was respect because what we learnt in that lesson taught me so much about respect such as I learnt what I actually thought respect was as I have never actually thought about what I think respect is. I also learnt that there are many different types of respect such as there is respect for self, others and objects and buildings but the one I think is most important here is respect for self because then you will not disrespect others because you don’t want to lose your respect for yourself this also applies for respect for buildings, objects and places.
In this unit for health I have learnt all of the things that you can do if you are having bad experience with people on the internet and what you can do if someone you know is experiencing negative behavior targeted towards them on the internet, some of these things are talking to them to try and figure out what the problem is and then seeing if you can help them with the problem and if you can’t, you can direct them to someone who can, if you can’t help them with the problem and they do not wish to be sent to another person you can also tell them to block and report this person and the report part can also help people in the future as other people will not have to encounter this person. This is called being an upstander not a bystander, an upstander is stepping in and helping rather than standing back and watching.
One of the things we learnt in this term and even before is about fake news and not believing everything online. This was taught by a guest speaker we had come in who talked to us about fake news and also by one of the units in the booklet. One of the main things that I learnt from the booklet unit is the power of editing such as the picture of the biker had been edited so his hi-vis vest was a leather jacker and it had been zoomed in to show just the face and top half of his body therefore not showing the toy on the back of his motorcycle. When edited it looks like the person is just a biker, and not as seen in the unedited version delivering toys to a charity or children’s hospital, and plays on the stereotype of bikers being mean to portray the biker in that way.
