One of the most challenging parts of the decade, that will be remembered in years to come, will be the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has been a very different experience during the times when social distancing began, to the dubious times of home learning. However, All Saints’ College has withstood what was thrown at us, and at least for now, we have prevailed.
A period of self-reflection, I must admit, was also a part of the phase of home constraints. By truly being oneself, you can learn what is deep down within. I couldn’t help feeling a melancholy sense of seclusion. I realised that I simply cannot enjoy life as purely as I could with my friends. While a sense of communal defiance against a terrible ailment held us together, I felt that I needed to see them face-to-face, instead of through words typed across screens.
However, I also appreciated that Australia could be much worse off. There are countries who have had it worse than Australia, such as USA and China. The best way of reflection is through a balance; on one side, a way of seeing methods to make life better, and on the other a simple obligation that things could be worse.
Nevertheless, the reason why Australia is swimming, not surviving or drowning, through this worldwide pandemic, is because we have been able to act together as a community. Our actions has mitigated a far worse outcome, and at the heart of it in our community, All Saints’ College has done an outstanding job at being one of those swimmers through a fierce tide of hardship.
Whatever happens next, lets keep it up.
