Semester 1, 2021 held multiple opportunities for me to represent my house and the school in sport.
Two weeks into Term 1, we had the swimming carnival. I was excited as swimming was my major sport. I participated in 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. I did my very best, and my best results were 4th overall in Freestyle and 2nd in Butterfly. To sweeten things even more, Durack won the carnival for the 3rd year running!
All Saints’ held trials for the West Coast Futsal Competition, and I managed to get into the team. I was goalkeeper, and we did quite well. My best memory from the day was the desire to win on the day. At one point, I told one of my friends that having fun was the most important thing and he looked at me like I was crazy. In the end, it was a very enjoyable experience.
We had out Interhouse Cross Country in Term 2, and ran hard to score my best ever result of 7th place. It was a brilliantly exciting place between me and Jaxon Chan, who overtook me at the start. Finally, it came down to a flat out sprint during the last 500m, and I managed to pull in front of him. The 7th place meant that I was a reserve for the Interschool Cross Country.
Around two days before Interschool, I felt unwell from a chest infection. Fortunately, I was a reserve, and I thought everyone would turn up. Right?
Just my luck that two people hurt themselves, so I was forced to run the cross country with Jaxon also filling in. I did my best, and it was another brilliant race. I managed to finish 172nd, with him only just behind in 174th! We look forward to going at it again next year.
