Project Utopia

The Utopia project was a very long process starting by reading the book The Giver, having class discussions and talking about creating our perfect world. We focused on 2 main factors which were environmental quality and building community. Talking about liability, building community and environmental quality during class lead us to our first project our Sustainable houses. During the process of our sustainable houses we were able to create our own model house in pairs.  We Researched what makes houses more sustainable planning and having many drafts before we could decide on our final copy that we could use to create our house with. After completing our houses we expanded our knowledge in sustainability into a bigger project.

After completing the sustainable house project we started to design our own utopia using all our knowledge from the past projects. We shared our research and plans that we completed independently, with a partner. After being with a partner and sharing our thoughts we had more ideas for our utopia. We were put into groups and shared our research again. We then collaboratively started to plan out the process of designing our utopia figuring how we were going to complete everything so we could start building.

We learned about the global goals so we could get accreditations. Accreditations are the global goals that our group got to choose to focus on and research for our utopia. The global goals helped us focus on the main ideas to help improve our utopia in sustainability, liability and environmental quality. We needed to research the goal we were focusing on and to get an accreditation for the goal we needed to show a teacher and they would asses us on weather we have researched enough on the goal.

The groups got given a black sheet of space where our utopia would be based around and that gave us an idea on where everything would go and where to place things. The next few weeks we spend building our utopia. When we were closer to finishing building we started talking about government rules and responsibilities. We had to write a constitution for the rules and responsibilities our community needed to follow. We also had to decide on the consequences if the rules were broken. Our constitution was a big part of our utopia as it was there to keep everyone in line and prevent crimes and issues within the community. We ended with writing a speech using our knowledge from our public speaking explaining the process and the steps we had to get to were we have gotten.
