Family

My name is Sydney Broad, I’m from West Australia, I was born in 2008 on the 10th of May. I have two sisters their names are Indiana and Kinsley. I’m the middle child which sounds like fun but it is terrible. I was 5 weeks old was when my journey started!

Schooling

My family and I went to Zambia – for those of you who don’t know where Zambia is, it is in Africa. We went to Simba School, my family lived on Golden Lay farm as my Dad owns it.  We soon discovered that my little sister and I were allergic to grass. We then moved to South Africa, we were renting a house for 2 years during that time we went to a school called Cowan House, for 5 year we were at that school.

Lock Down

In 2020 April, we went into lock down at home. We were not allowed to leave the house, my family and I were very bored. On Easter we camped outside and had a bonfire. That night it was so cold that we almost went inside, my dog was in my bed in the house, nice and warm. My Mum and Dad had got tickets for the flight to Australia. We sat in a bus for 8 hours but when we got there they told us that the flight was cancelled. So we drove back and unpacked.

Hotel Quarantine

after 4 weeks they then allowed us to buy tickets so we packed up and left. When we got to the airport, we went on the plane for 16 hours. When we finally landed we were put on buses for 6 and half hours, just sitting there as we awaited the sniffer dogs… The dogs sniffed our carry on bags and us as got our baggage, only to end up on another bus soon after, towards Stanford Hotel. We waited on this bus for another 3 hours. It was painful to say the least.

More About Hotel Quarantine

I asked for the keys to the hotel room and they then said, “You don’t get keys as you are not allow to leave the room under any circumstances.” I turned 12 during this ‘hotel’ stay and it was horrible… Mainly because there was no windows whatsoever, that were allowed to be open. To make matters worse, I had to sleep on the couch.
