HCO Fab Crowman II

Describe the process you went through to create your production.
We already had the idea in our heads for crow man II, so within one weekend, we wrote almost the entire script. After a bit of editing we had a complete script done before the other groups had a full idea together. We were well ahead of everyone and while others were still on the scriptwriting stage, we were almost done with our story board. the following is the storyboard and the script.

After we did the storyboard, we started canvassing the school looking for good spots to shoot. After a few weeks of getting a plan together. We started gathering resources; costumes, cameras microphones everything we’d need for this film. Later that week we started shooting. We filmed a lot very quickly, then very quickly realised it was garbage. We reshot and altered the storyboard for these developments. We had a couple of absences and the weather got in the way a lot of the time. However, by the end of term 3, we had all of our shots. Editing took a lot less time than expected as we did a lot of work outside of class. We showed Mr Hamilton and later the class our finished film. Made some touch-ups accordingly. Unfortunately we weren’t able to see all of the other movies due to exams, however it was a lot of fun watching booty man and flat earth theory, the other films in our class.

How did you come up with the original idea?
Before this semester even started, we had formed a group and had decided to do crow man II attempting to advance our skills in both pre, during, and post production. Expanding on the abilities we developed in the previous media classes. It was an easy and efficient course of action to get a high quality task done. Since we had a very good idea of what we were doing it was very easy to generate our design. The script and storyboard came very easily to us as we already knew how we wanted it to look. This had another benefit as we were able to get working very quickly, and therefore able to pour more of our plentiful time into making a high quality film.

Describe three obstacles or challenges you encountered when creating your production
Even though we moved very fast, I found pacing to be a big problem in our group. A large part of our group were rather lazy and lost focus easily. When we put our heads together and worked hard we got a lot done very well very fast. However, Most lessons were spent dawdling and/or playing binding of Isaac. Our production quality was also quite low, and I feel that we didn’t take full advantage of all the resources given to us, even with something as mainstream as the camera, we shot most of the movie in auto with a medium shot. On this topic our technical knowledge definitely needed some work. The most complex thing we did post-production was ultra keying for the green screen.

What would you do differently next time

Similarly to what I’ve said earlier, we definitely need some technical revision. Mr Hamilton said we needed to storyboard everything, and even though we did I completely agree. You can see, even in our storyboard, a lot of our shots were medium, flat and boring. The camera angling, lighting, and the audio associated with the film are the most important aspects. These factors make the film, and even though we have some good ideas we really need to understand the technical outlet to execute and deliver them properly. We definitely have potential as writers, but directing needs some work.
