In English, we read “The Giver” Which introduced us to a utopian society. After this, we got our project for innovated which was to turn the Fremantle Port into a utopian society where everyone would thrive especially as an individual. When planning how we were going to do this we are going to have to consider the global goals, livability factors, and the design thinking process. To start off the project we had to brainstorm as many ideas as we could in every important aspect of people’s everyday lives. For example, the transport we had to think of as many ideas we could transport people to and from their location.
Global goals:
In our project, we had to look at the global goals and consider which ones we would highlight in our Fremantle Port redesign. The goals my group decided to use were goals:
7 “Affordable and clean energy”
8 “decent work and economic growth”
9 “industry, innovation, and infrastructure”
11 “sustainable cities and communities”
14 “life below water”
15 “life on land”
These goals played part in our project by helping us come up with the idea of an open aquarium where tourists have the opportunity to see animals up close. Goal number 15 life on land helps us think of the idea to have nature playgrounds and areas for people to connect with the development. Affordable and clean energy goal 7 helped us think of ways we can cut down on fossil fuels and which renewable sources of energy would be most efficient in the Fremantle area and during which times of the year. Goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities made us think deeply about how we would design buildings to benefit us in the future. Goal 8 decent work and economic growth help us think of ways people can still work today whilst living in a covid relevant environment. Goal 9 industry, innovation, and infrastructure evolved our thinking so that we thought to include warehouses so people can bring their businesses into Fremantle or have areas for people to build amusement parks.

Livability/ sustainability factors:
Our group’s focus is to create a sustainable environment where everyone and everything will thrive. We researched livability factors to find the most suitable for the Fremantle Port community such as energy efficiency, access to facilities and services, and the freedom to practice culture and tradition making sure we are keeping the essence of the City of Fremantle whilst making it more sustainable/ ecofriendly.

My journey:
This project started off with the whole year 7 grade looking at the design thinking process and how we will be considering this throughout the entire project. This poster helped me think about what part of this project will require what cog. This helps me and my group think in the correct direction for each part of this project. What I learned from this is that in different parts of a project you will need to think in different ways so that you can be led in the right direction for that task.
In my individual journey, this project started off with deciding what our focus was going to be. After we decided what we were going to do we started defining our problem and how we were going to solve it with what strategy. This taught me to really think about something and understand deeply how we are going to fix it and what’s going to make it possible. Once we had finished the defining stage we started to come up with innovative and creative ideas on how this current problem was going to solve and how we are going to keep the essence of old Fremantle there. This really helped me come up with innovative ideas that build on other ideas in this case the old buildings and feeling of Fremantle. The part that really got me thinking was the challenges that would come. This part of the task really got me thinking about trying to identify possible challenges that we could come up with solutions for earlier. Another challenging part of this activity was identifying what sustainability factors would be used in this project. How those factors were going to link to our main goal. Because we were in a group, we dedicated different parts of the activity to different people so that the work could be done more effectively. This task taught me to divide and conquer so that the work is finished quicker whilst still making sure that the work is up to where you think it should be.

During the process of figuring out our goals inside our focus, I learned that a big task can be broken into smaller pieces so that it doesn’t seem as big whilst you are also able to focus on a smaller piece and put a good amount of effort into it. It was a struggle to come up with the smaller parts but once it was done, we were able to assign different parts to the people that fit that part the best. This task allowed us to identify the more possible problems that could happen and what we can do to limit those problems. We were able to identify the possible ways for the idea to thrive and not interrupt people’s daily lives. I and my whole group had to think innovatively so that we can have the best of both worlds with our idea working whilst not bothering humanity.

With the limited amount of space that was available, we decided to figure out the average space for some of the bigger ideas we had. Figuring out the space that some of the things we had planned allowed us to think of ways we can use space more sustainably. We learned that we could create multipurpose buildings which would 1 be more sustainable and wouldn’t cost as much to run them as two separate facilities. 2 we wouldn’t have to use up as much space.
As a group, I think that we collaborated well and communicated effectively. What helped us achieve this was how organised we were and making sure we were up to date with things. There were some challenges along the way, for example, one of our group members didn’t like an idea as much as everyone else did. This lead to a little bit of confusion trying to figure out how to make everyone happy with an idea but still coming back to our main focus. What I had learned from these little challenges is that the first idea might not be the best idea and if you think of what you can add and what won’t be needing you can then create a much better idea for humanity and the environment. This also taught me to take in other people’s suggestions because it can help refine your idea and you get another perspective on theirs.
Public Speaking:
One of the presenting parts of this project was to do a speech and explain your ideas using a vision board. When it comes to public speaking I’m am not very good at it. I learned a lot from public speaking though. I learned that there are many different ways to keep your audience listening and wanting to hear more of what you’ve got to say. I also learned that body language and how you speak can really add an extra level of greatness to your speech. This part of the project I think can really benefit me and now I can use these tips to better my future presentations.
Vision board:

To present our group’s ideas and information we were told we had to present it with a vision board. A vision board is a collage of pictures that have a meaning and reason that they are there. This way of presenting our information means that we can use images of the internet, explain why they are there and how they are going to fix or help out humanity. This presenting part of the project taught me that 1 image can say a lot of words. This part also taught me to think about things and what their purpose is because a plant is certainly better at saving the environment than a car is. I had also learned that there are many different ways to present something more creative and unique it is the more someone is going to want to have a look at it. If you present something in the same way as every other person is then you aren’t likely to get a lot of people that want to look at it.
Overall veiw
This project certainly taught me a lot in many different categories. This project was a fun and stressful project. At the end of this project, I was able to leave with new knowledge and ways of doing things. I also enjoyed the realism of this project knowing that some of our ideas will be used to create a better Fremantle for people, businesses, and everything else to thrive as well as they can. I also learned a lot of group work skills that will help me and any future group work around stepbacks, people not agreeing on things, including more than one idea, and much more.
