Project Utopia – Reflection

Introduction

Across the year we were learning about different topics regarding sustainability but had no idea it was all preparation for this project. This was a decent project that I sort of enjoyed. It required a lot of preparation to have everything ready to present by week 9. We started this project back in term 2 and did not even realise, starting with the giver then the key factors of liveability. We then went to our science sustainable houses and after that, we did our research task and from there went to starting the actual project.

ASC Capabilities

This project was an excellent way for us to show off our learning while working on our collaboration, communication, and organisation skills. At first, it was hard for me and my group to work with each other because we had limited ways to communicate but once we found a way to talk to each other to work on the project everything went smoothly. During this project, we had to make sure that everything was organised, so the way we kept everything organised during this project was by making a group OneNote page and putting down our accreditations, a to-do list, our planning designs and our constitution.

UN Global Goals

The United Nations Global Goals played a huge part in making our community. We had to make a community that could accommodate at least 3 Global Goals. There are 17 Global Goals including, Zero hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, Gender Equality and Quality Education. We learnt a lot about the key things a community needs especially when fitting in the Global Goals to keep citizens happy. While doing this project we realised how important it is to make sure everybody is happy and feels safe and free from conflict.

Public Speaking Skills

A few weeks before the showcase we worked on our public speaking skills. From watching over my presentation, hearing the feedback I was given by my teachers and watching my classmates present I learnt how significant it is to make myself seem confident, or as the teachers say “sell yourself”, and engage with the audience even when we’re not speaking. The most important part of public speaking, to me at least, is the power pose to make sure the people you are talking to know you are open to questions.

Liveability

During this project, I learnt that to make a good community it should not just have different places for people to go but it should also be able to meet up with the many different liveability factors. We learnt that in order to make a city liveable it must have many different opportunities for citizens to work and have fun while still suiting the key factors of liveability. It was hard to make all the different facilities to accommodate for the liveability factors, but we knew we had to because of how important it was.

Showcase

The showcase was a good way for us to show off our understanding of what makes a whole society. The questions we got from parents were sometimes very straightforward or very hard to answer. It was nice to have all of the parents come and tell us about their expertise. This showcase was great to see how my peers presented and good to see that all their hard work had paid off.

Conclusion

Overall, this was a great project, and if I were to do it again, I would definitely try to get more opportunities to work with my group members. It was a great way for us to learn about what makes a perfect society.
