Dear Sir or Madam
Safety of women in Australia, 81% of women have experienced sexual harassment in the world and whatโs Australia doing about our part of the percentage? ย Women should be able to feel safe in their own homes and walk the streets alone, but in a world like this, they donโt. Some women have such bad trauma from these accidents that they canโt even leave their house, this is not something people should have to face. As a nation, we need to work together to fix this issue.
31% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a man they know and 23% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former intimate partner since the age of 15. As a nation, we need to work together to bring this percentage down. A way we can do this is by making an ALL-WOMAN apartment building in each state/city for women who are facing violence can stay and can feel safe and secure.
The Numbers of girls being raped, abused and more need to get way lower because 94% of women who have been raped experience symptoms ofย PTSD two weeks after the rape and 30% of women report symptoms of PTSD 9 months after the rape. Rape also affects the suicide numbers as 13% of women who are raped attempt suicide while 33% of women contemplate suicide, so if the rape numbers drop so will the suicide numbers. Another thing Australia can do to help this has therapists that are specialized in the category of rape and this therapy will be free to ALL VICTIMS OF RAPE so that the woman can have a safe space to ask questions and get help.
This is something I feel strongly about, and I think it should be one of Australiaโs main focusesโ so all of Australiaโs citizens can feel safe in their own houses and just walk down the street.
Sincerely Zoe Vassallo
