In our earth, space and science project, we designed, and built an earthquake resistant building prototype of a building, based off of the US bank tower. When we were designing this we had figured that, “triangles were a strong shape” and based our building off of that one statement. We had made sure that not one part of our building had a triangle as its support. This allowed us to have one of the most earthquake resistant buildings out of everyone in our class. In our project we had to calculate the cost of the entire building, we did this through using our newfound skills with calculating the length of hypotenuse and the rest of the sides of a triangle, seeing as our entire building was built with triangles. Altogether I thought my group had worked pretty well, once we had finally figure out a design.

Our final prototype

In the production of our prototype I had to design the tower, I used fusion 360 to do this, as it was easier to visualize as a building. After I had designed the tower we had to calculate all of the measurements, although it would have been better to calculate the lengths before actually designing it. After we had calculated the cost of the tower, we tried to build it. We experienced many hardships with doing this, firstly the entire building collapsed after I accidentally broke one of the pasta strands that was on the base and held up the entire building. Then we finally built it then we returned on another day for it to be mostly collapsed. In the future I would improve upon our prototype through calculating the measurements before actually designing it. When building the prototype I would also organize an entire double period to build it. Additionally I would try to keep a maximum of 3 people building this at once due to the crowding that occurred when we tried to build it the first time.
