Year 9 Camp – Teamwork

In August of 2021, all of the Year 9 students went on an camping trip to Kalbarri. We were all split into different groups and rotations. I was in Group 1 of Rotation 2, and our camp leaders were Dave and Laura. I’m going to write about how I used teamwork on my camp and how it made my experience much more enjoyable.

Throughout my journey of Year 9 camp, I had to use my capability of teamwork the most. The main way that I used it was cooking. Cooking had lots of things that we needed to complete to ensure that we would have enough food when we ventured into the gorges. The first thing that we had to do when we arrived in Kalbarri was go to the main tent and go through a list of foods that we needed to pack. I was a part of the team that needed to grab the food after it was called out and put them into their certain boxes. This really helped to improve my group’s teamwork skills because we had to communicate to make sure we grabbed the right amount of food. Once we had done this, we dispersed the food throughout the group, and we were off.

After our long trek down into the gorge, carrying our massive bags with all our clothes and food, we made it. My friend Georgia and I were tent mates and we had to use teamwork to gather each part of the tent and put it up. Then we explored and eventually we all sat down in a circle and started to cook. We pulled out our Trangias and began to chop up the vegetables. Every member of my cooking group had a different role and each night we changed so we could try something new.

This OLP helped me a lot to improve my teamwork skills and communicate with my peers.
