For $20 BOSS, Sascha and I did a jewellery business. There was a lot of brainstorming and design processing to get to our business and selling stage. Sascha and I knew that we wanted to do a jewellery business, so we interviewed a lot of people to see what type of jewellery they would wear or buy the most, and we built off that information, and realised that necklaces were the most popular. We did more brainstorming and thinking and came up with what charms we wanted to sell. We decided on stars, waves and butterflies. At the very start, we were actually thinking of making clay jewellery dishes too. After a while, we decided not to sell them because they took up too much time to make, and they also didn’t look that great.

Here are some photos of our products…

we had other colours of the butterflies too – pink and white

The capabilities that my group relied on the most were probably problem solving, creativeness and organisation. We used problem-solving when there was a situation that caused our business to be put in jeopardy or if there was something that got in the way of progressing in our business. We used creativeness when we were choosing our packaging and choosing which chains and charms to use. We used the organisation capability to make sure that every week for InnovatED, we were ready with all the things we needed to move forward with our business.

Sascha and I faced some obstacles because we ordered our charms and chains online, there was the fear that we wouldn’t get them on time, and when they did come, we worried that we weren’t going to have enough time to make and package them all. In the end, it turned out that they did come, and we didn’t have to worry about time.

The stages of the design process that we best used were the Empathise and Ideate stages. This was because we had to empathise to figure out what our target audience would want to buy. We had to interview our target audience to find out what they wanted.  We used the Ideate stage also the most because we spent a long time thinking about what charms we were going to use and what we were going to sell.

I think that my and Sascha’s Business went really well. We made a profit of over $100. We sold out of our butterfly necklaces and We only have some stars and waves left. I am really proud of how we did and I really enjoyed this project. If I did this again, I would probably get more charm designs and more variety of jewellery designs so that more people would buy. Overall this was a really fun experience and I would definitely do it again!
