HASS

Introduction

As part of our year 10 Humanities course we are able to research a topic and create a project to show case at a final exhibition. The topic that Ben and I are doing is ‘Economics’ and the inquiry question is ‘How much do (we) Australia rely on China’

What our project will be?

Our group plans for the exhibition is to be able to present the information we plan to have some posters which show relevant facts and statistics. To make our exhibition more interactive, we plan to make a trade game which is related to real trading with China and Australia.

The Game:

Our game will be an interactive trade type game which also acts as a social experiment/simulation between the economic dependence between China and Australia with the addition of other countries. The game is set out on a map of the world

  • You will play as Australia and your goal is to make as much money as possible, trading Iron ore to different countries
  • You can trade with different countries such as Japan, China, United kingdom, India, Russia, Canada, Thailand and America. However different countries have a different demand for Iron ore and pay either more or less per 1000 tons of Iron ore
  • You can only trade with two different countries at a time
  • There will be events that have an influence in the game such as Covid, an Increase in export cost, and higher tariffs
  • There is a 5 minute time limit. During the 5 minutes, you need to make as much money as possible from exporting iron
  • Players will roll a dice to find out how many 1000 tons of Iron ore gets exported (E.G if you roll the dice and get two “fives” you get to export 10000 tones of iron ore)

The steps I have completed are?

  • Finished all 10 sources
  • Brainstorm sheet
  • Project timeline
  • E-portfolio
  • Begun “project”
  • Completed 3/3 of posters
  • Made progress on interactive game
  • Econnomy Game

Plan for the future?

Capabilities?

The skills which I need for this project and presentation for the Exabition are:

  • Research skills – Help to gather relevant facts and information about our topic
  • communication – Use this to be able to communicate to other group members if one is away
  • Organization – Use this to be able to set out clear goals and tasks to help us stay on track E.G our timeline
  • Creative thinking – Use this to be able to come up with good ideas for our project
  • Collaboration – To be able to work together effectively as a group

The skills that I need to develop are Effective communication with group members to be able to work out who does what in the group, The skill Organization is a skill that I can develop as developing it more allows us to be able to better use our time efficiently.

This was the planning sheet what we included were what skill we need and need to develop, what our ideas are, how we will present and what steps are needed.

The first time

This story starts way back, about 5 years ago when I was 8 years old.  My Swim coach told us that we had to swim 400 meters. I was confused, and completely gobsmacked. I had no idea why she would make us swim such a large distance at that age. I can easily swim that distance now. About at the 150 meters mark I started to feel the burn, no, like I actually felt a burning sensation in my legs and arms. I was in pain. At the end I was exhausted but relieved that it was over. Over a month later she told us to the same thing again.
