Keys 4 Life Assessment

Along the Duration of term 2 in Health, our cohort was tasked with creating a campaign about the negative dangers about road safety. This assessment task is to make an poster or any advertising technology to educate young drivers on road safety. The topic of the advertisement were presented to be one out of 4 major road safety factors (speed, alcohol, fatigue, distracted driving). The campaign’s purpose is deigned to provide other new drivers with reliable information about the issue that we chose, and have a clear and relevant message based on the issue.

The campaign topic I chose to explore was Alcohol consumption before driving. I decided to choose alcohol as it has the largest volume of driving accidents and it is known to be the most prominent danger safety issue.

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

The most prominent thing that I learnt at the RAC excursion was that there are a lot of fatalities that occur on our roads related to alcohol consumption and driving. I knew before that it was a massive factor of crashes but now I see that it is a larger issue and effects more people than I thought it would. I now see how big of an issue it is and how it can effect people

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young drivers above all else? Why?

To not think only about your own safety but also others around you when you make these life changing decisions. If you were to get into an accident, you could not only injure yourself but also other people that might be in the car with you and/or in the other cars involved in the car. If you are a young driver, it is not a necessity to drink, therefore, don’t drink before going on the road, to benefit not only you, but the drivers potentially around you. A personal note to yourself to not drink and be responsible is all you need. With some initiative and integrity, any young driver can allow himself to not make stupid and reckless decisions that will disadvantage yourself and others for the rest of their life.

Write down a pledge that you will commit to when you start driving. Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitments?

That I will never drink and drive on my plates and make reckless decisions on the road in future. If I follow this pledge, I will prevent getting any fines, demerit points or jail time as I have stayed within the specific confinements of the law as I was a responsible driver. By just simply obeying the law, I can stay safe as a driver on the road and prevent any future motor vehicle accidents. strategies such as carpooling and obeying the law can easily help me stick to these commitments. This commitment means a lot to me, too many people are being injured and killed by reckless decisions made by people involving the irresponsible consumption of alcohol .Being responsible for my own wellbeing for the future, will tremendously aid me to sticking strong to these crucial safety commitments.
