Course Reflection

Throughout the duration of this second semester, I have had the opportunity to attend and learn from a plethora of captivating courses. The course that I found to be most beneficial to me was the Health and Nutrition Course, taken by Cathy Latino. This course allowed me to expand my preconceived basic knowledge of nutrition and apply it to my everyday life, aiding and supporting me with my outside school sport endeavors. This course can also contribute to my soccer diet, what I need to perform at my best, and when I need to consume it.

A discerning disparity that I have recognized previous to the course is how I had previously believed that diet does not have a major impact on the performance of an athlete. However, after the conclusion of the course, the food you consume in every day life, and before games, directly correlates to the energy and performance of athletes. To summarize what was said, the carbohydrates provide a readily available energy source, essential for sustained endurance during training and competition. Proteins aid in muscle repair and growth, crucial for athletes undergoing rigorous training regimens. Proper hydration is equally vital for maintaining peak performance and preventing dehydration-related issues such as cramps. In essence, a well rounded and wholesome diet not only fuels an athlete’s body but also contributes to faster recovery.

This course has taught me lessons that will benefit my athlete based diet.

Skill

Throughout the second semester course, I have had the opportunity to develop many new skills. In particular my defensive awareness, this defensive awareness was worked on during the latter stages of the course, focusing on body and court positioning. I attempted to implement this skill into games in order to aid my defensive capabilities.

view and position really helped us developed a complete understanding of team defence. Positioning is crucial in the 4v4 drill as it can allow a lot of things. Ball defenders must be close and spread out, defenders one pass away must be able to steal, and other defenders are in a position where they can help. This drill was instrumental in helping me learn to defend.
