In art this semester it was sculpture and casting and we were told that we were making amulets and talismans. We learnt what they were and what they mean to different people. And we got to make our own. The first thing we did was practice carving, we did this on a soap. My first soap didn’t end well at all, it broke almost 20 mins working on it. I learnt that I was being to aggressive and going way to fast so I thought about everything I did and started the second one and I went much slower and more gentle. And in the end it looked really good and I was really happy that I got use to it. After that we got to start drawing what we wanted it to look like and after a lot of sketches I decided to wanted something simple and I really liked what a turtle shell looked like so I drew it up and really liked it. I was really good at my time management throughout this task by meeting my targets every class. And I started to carving and once it was done I had to make the box around it and poured my reason and I made my first one and I had to decide on what colour I wanted. So I got out the paints and went through to see what I liked and I couldn’t decide with green or orange but I decided on green because green is more a turtle colour then orange and I looked I all the different greens I liked by mixing it with lots of different colours. I really liked the light green so I painted my real one green and then I realised it was very very boring and I wanted to add something onto it so I got my practice one and tried lots of different things and I didn’t really liked anything until I did I darker green in the cracks. It made it look a lot better and not too boring but not too out there and bright. I still wanted to add something onto it. I knew I wanted to beads but they were all too big too fit in the cracks were I wanted them to be so I had to problem solve and I just deicide to put the smallest bead onto the top on the crack and it looked great. In the end I was really happy with how I went and how much I learnt because at the beginning I was not confident at all because im usually only good at drawing an painting part of art but I ended learning a lot and not being too bad.
