Snorkelling for me was a new experience and even though I didn’t know anything I was able to develop skills in snorkelling such as mask clearing and equalizing.  the first thing was, of course, know the risks and being able to stay safe. This was taught through the words SAFE SNORKEL. Safety, accident, first aid, emergency.  Sun, nourishment, ocean, reef, keep together, environment, leave no trace. These were some simple rules we had to follow when we went outdoors to Coogee and Rottnest. Before we snorkelled we had a few team building lessons where we had to work together to complete tasks. Some of this involved leadership where chosen people had to guide the rest of the group which were blindfolded. When we first started to learn how to snorkel, we learned a few entries. The entries included the stride, compact, rollback and wade entry. We learned all of these on the pool but later we were given the privilege of going to Coogee to explore the marine time trail and develop our skills further. This gave us a real experience of snorkelling in the ocean. But of course, there were risks as well. We had to stay with our buddy that we chose and couldn’t be too far. We learned how to duck dive and equalize when underwater. To equalize you had to hold your nose and slowly blow out of your mouth. The next thing was clearing your mask, tilting your head back and blow air out of your nose.
