Capabilities are wonderous traits and tools that we can utilize in everyday life to make a positive difference in our world. English is a subject where we can exercise and develop many of these capabilities through interactions with others. For instance, in the most current English project, we were tasked to work in a group to create an original dramatic performance. Working in a group with my peers, I was able to effectively develop my capabilities further. The most valued capabilities gained included creativity and effective communication.

As a group, we finalized on the issue of homelessness and had to think of a persuasive but entertaining way to present our ideas. At first, I was unable to grasp ideas, failing to think creatively. However, after practising creative discussion with the group, we proposed the idea of the contrast between what the general public perceives of homeless people and who they actually are. Creativity was crucial in successfully portraying the difficult life of the Homeless man in contrast to the general public and greatly challenged us. We managed to enhance our creativity and utilize audio and props for sleeping conditions and daily life.

Throughout the task, we also hit many road bumps along the way because of problems with time, periods as a group were missed due to absences. This is where we had to have effective communication to be able to push through the difficulties. Due to this, we had set up a group chat for effective communication. Everyone in the group was on the same page and could discuss possible arrangements for the performance. We had lots of pressure on time, so we needed to communicate effectively. Meeting up after school was effective in taking part of the workload and put us back on track in time for the due date. Overall, the task was difficult in pushing us to think creatively and managing ourselves but that was what allowed me to effectively develop my creativity and effective communication.
