Dear Mr McGowan,

Thank you very much for holding such resolve over the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and keeping our state safe. This took great leadership and strong management. For the last two years the COVID-19 pandemic has given us opportunities to enjoy our fun travel adventures closer to home: Margaret River region, Bluff Knoll climb, sandboard in Lancelin, camel safari in Broome, swim with dolphins in Rockingham, you name it. We have been taken back to find out what is within the reach.

One of the places that really impressed us was Esperance. The crystal blue waters and remote beaches in Esperance are a well-hidden gem and due to WA’s isolation, we did not have to share the beach with too many people. What we have noticed though is that due to remoteness and lack of infrastructure not too many people are willing to travel to Esperance or any other regional area further than 2 hours from Perth.

I would like to propose the implementation of the high-speed rail from Perth to regional WA including Geraldton, Margaret River, Albany and Esperance. This will provide Australians with more transportation choices. It will also make sure that WA remains an economic engine and meets the environmental and energy challenges of this century.

Building high-speed rail will create highly skilled jobs for the population which will make domestic rail industries grow by supplying transportation products and services. We will see an increase in economic activity. The rail services will connect WA’s economically vital regions and help keep them mobile, productive and efficient. WA population is projected to grow as well as the congestion on our state roads. Just see Friday afternoon traffic out of Perth before the long weekend. I believe that the new high-speed train infrastructure will reduce state congestion and boost productivity. It will also increase the urban percentage and promote state/national tourism.

Implementing high-speed rail will keep billions of dollars in the WA economy by decreasing the amount of oil that the WA consumes. High-speed rail is eight times more energy-efficient than aeroplanes and four times more efficient than automobile use. It will also decrease greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

Please consider my proposal as I believe this will create so many opportunities for the state and people.

Yours Faithfully
