The Big HASS Project

As Part of year 10 Humanities this term were were able to research a project of our own, and to create an outcome and to showcase at a final exhibition.

The topic that my group has chosen to research is the Black death through its historical, geographical and economic impacts of the Bubonic plague on Europe. Our Main focuses are economics (effect of plague on Europe’s economy), geography (Spread of the plague over time in Europe) and history (history of Bubonic plague).

We are going to be presenting our research through a news report. Tis report is going to be a lookback on specific events, but looking at specific groups within the Black death and how these groups responded to the Plague.

Our essential Question:

How did Europe respond to the plague & what effects did it have on Europe’s future?

Summary

So far, I have been following the plan of our timeline and the booklet closely, making sure all members of our group are in the loop. Currently, it has been a bit hard to keep in touch with one of my group members, but when they arrive back (on Friday) I can get them back into the loop. It will take time to get everybody’s research curated, but it is one of the most important parts to our project, as it is where we are going to present our information. We have our idea, we have our plan, we have our timeline. Now, we just have to give our all to find good information for our news report

Week 2

Steps completed so far

  • Collected all information needed for my characters
  • Started writing script for news report
  • Completed Questions
  • Started forming feedback for other groups
  • The feedback we got on our last progress update was good but it made us realise that we need to include a bit more of the impact of the plague on Europe at the time. We could fix this by incorporating a section in our tv show which outlines the effect it had on people at the time, this could be something like a lifestyle segment. As a group we are now writing our scripts based on the research we individually collected on our characters. We have also started to pick out our costumes based on the characters we are in the show, this includes things like flagellants and peasants. We have decided to make a modern version of the plague in the show but still the same outcomes, this means that instead of having a farmer/peasant we are having a tradie and we are changing other aspects of the show to make it more interesting. Overall, we are working well as a group and we’re collaborating effectively as well as sharing the load around evenly.
