InnovatED – Leadership and Effective Communication

This semester in InnovatED, I was apart of the documentary team. Our team had a big responsibility to carry out an effective and engaging video explaining what we had achieved, despite the circumstances and how the other groups performed. I chose to highlight Leadership and effective communication because we had a very special way of showing leadership and an interesting time trying to effectively communicate.

Our leadership wasn’t based on only one person, it was based on what the circumstances were. For example, we would be all working collaboratively then an issue would arise and so one person would take the lead to explain to everybody, then we would go back to being equal.

Effective communication was an interesting point for us. Although we were collaborating together we weren’t communicating properly. For example, I would be working on sorting the videos and so organising who else was helping and what they were doing, then suddenly all my videos would be disappearing because somebody had already sorted them. If we had more time I feel as if we would be able to overcome this issue and work both collaboratively and have good communication.

InnovatED Excursion

On Friday the 21st February 2020 my Tutor Group headed to the Salvation Army headquarters to find out what problems we could help them with by looking for solutions. I was already familiar with the space from the other times that I had been there as a volunteer. We toured the space while the staff explained to us the value of what The Salvo’s do, and how many different people they support in the community. We were then led into a Chapel where the Salvo’s representatives outlined some problems The Salvation Army were experiencing and some possible ways we could help. They wanted us to find a better organization system and figure out how to bring an improved aesthetic into the space where it was more welcoming and less factory like for their clients. They also wanted us to fix a project they already started to do with VR. We used the virtues of patience during this excursion, they had a lot to say and we listened to gain a lot of knowledge from them.

A Week in the Life of a Year 7

In 2019, Mr. Port (Head of ICT Integration at All Saints’ College) and Mr. Dahlstrom (Head of Marketing and Community Relations for All Saints’ College) approached me and asked me to film a week in the life of a Year 7. That experience was my first experience working with The Agency (the employment agency for ASC) and the technology and promotion side of anything! Bringing a GoPro around with me everywhere was an amazing task yet challenging as people don’t often behave the same when there is a camera on them. Nevertheless, I still watch back the video with a smile as I remember how much fun it was to film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfVATwxfpp8

InnovatED

This term in InnovatED we have been working on the UN Global Goals. My group is working on ‘Goal 17’ – promoting the goals. Our idea is to create a short video of well known celebrities to promote the goals through a wide range.  So far we have written a persuasive email, made a video explaining what we are doing and now we are just about send out the email regarding that.
