Art: Casting and Construction

This semester in my one of my electives was casting and construction, our task was to create an amulet/talisman that would protect us from something. During this course I have learnt how to use and work with different mediums such as clay and soap, pinkie sill casting, and epoxy, which is what we used to create our amulet.

Organised:

I tried out many different mediums such as different paints, and materials such as gems and crystals to try make different textures on my amulet. I sculpted different star signs into my amulet to create different textures making my design more interest. I decided I wanted my amulet to bring me happiness as all the colours and gems show some form of happiness.

Inquisitive:

When I was first given this task I didn’t really have any idea of what I wanted to make, however after doing some research and looking at different designs I knew that I wanted my design to involve different star signs to create a different texture, I googled some more to try find parts of designs I thought would look good and what inspired me when I was designing

Problem Solving:

Once I had finalised my mould and pored my resin in it had hardened I needed to find what colour and extra materials I wanted on my amulet, however this is something I struggled with because I didn’t know what finish I wanted and what types of gems I wanted to put on my amulet. It took me many different tries to decide what I wanted my final amulet to look like, and for some things I tried such as the gold leaf didn’t match and didn’t sit right on my amulet so I needed to find something new that I could do instead.

Creative:

I feel that the end result of my amulet was quite successful. I had many different elements that complemented each other quite well and was appealing the the eye.
