Drivers Ed- Don’t speed

The biggest thing I’ve learnt is how many people actually die from speeding and the effect it will have on others lives. I have also learnt how common crash crashes related to speeding are in Australia.

A piece of advice I would give young drivers is to not speed even if your late for something, or think no one will see because the consequences are much worse than maybe being late.

I write a pledge to not speed and keep others and myself safe on the roads, I will stick to this by keeping myself in check when I go to drive, and not forgetting my morals and the road rules. After all the rules are there to keep us safe.

Reasons people speed include showing off to friends, being late or accidental speeding. Speeding comes with great consequences. The faster you travel, the longer it takes to stop your vehicle increasing the risk of injury. The consequences include fines that can range from $400-$1.2k, and the removal of demerit points. If you are speeding by more than 40km/hour over the speed limit it is a $1.2k fine and the removal of 7 demerit points. Another consequence is the damage of your vehicle. The damage of vehicles are expensive to repair and can cause more accidents in the future. Lastly the most fatal consequence is death and serious injury, being the biggest killer on Western Australia roads. A passenger or pedestrian getting killed from your speeding will stick with you forever, speeding is not worth the risk.
