Aquaponics and Sustainable food Reflection

In term 2, I began my project and journey in Aquaponics. I start with working with the chickens for the first couple of weeks where we came up with ideas to benefit our plants, worms, fish, and chickens themselves. After a few weeks, I moved into working with wicking beds which is an easy and sustainable tool used to grow plants.

My Goals

When beginning this process we had to implement goals, values, and the design thinking process. Once we had our goals in mind we had to involve our college capabilities (as seen below).

My first goal is using the capability organization, my goal for looking after my wicking bed was to create a timetable to be able to know exactly what we need to do every week without instruction. Through doing this our group was able to be very organized and through this, we were able to get our jobs done quicker. Another one of my goals used capability Collaboration, our group had to use the collaboration to be able to sort out which aspects of looking after our wicking beds. We also used collaboration when making our table that we would later use. Overall having set goals helped us be organized and better at what we do.

Problems that we came by

One problem that we came by was sorting out how we would water it on some weeks because sometimes we were both away and had to get other groups to water and look after our wicking bed. Another problem that we came by was getting debris out of our bed without digging up our plants, this was a struggle because if we did dig up our plants we would deal damage to them.

Conclusion

Overall I enjoyed my time in Aquaponics and would definitely do it again, it was a great experience that I would definitely remember.
