On Friday the 20th of November, the Year 7’s had a wonderful opportunity to hold a Christmas Market selling various gifts and items and donate all the profits to charity. I was partners with Sayuri for this project and we sold adorable Perler Bead designs (recyclable by the way). However, our design process wasn’t without a few bumps along the way.

How we started this

InnovatED – We started by researching sustainable and ethical gift-making ideas that we could use or inspire us to think of other great ideas. We also interviewed our friends and our family members about Christmas and Christmas gifts that they might like. From this, we could figure out who we wanted as a target audience and things that could get the interested in our product. Our first ideas for products include:

  • Gift/jewellery boxes
  • Woven paper baskets
  • Screen printing on cards
  • Cookie-cutter candles
  • Magnets

English – We learnt about the structure of many different types of ads and what gave them the qualities we wanted in our own ones. When I was creating my ad, I had to make sure that it was directed toward our target audience (Year 5 & 6’s).

HASS – We learnt a lot about economics (too much to write here) and especially about supply and consumer demand. We then had to choose things that would appeal to our customers. Then we found the idea of creating Perler bead designs. We then researched the prices to buy the materials. After that, we wrote a script and pitched our idea to Miss Lingensjo. When we received our $30 investment we proceeded to start creating our designs.

InnovatED (again) – This was the time when most of our products were made. However, at first, Sayuri and I were most concentrated on making Christmas. While we were doing this, many of our friends suggested to us to create Among Us characters from an extremely popular mobile game. From the amount of attention we got when making these characters, we knew they were going to sell very well so we decided to create lots of them.
