Kalbarri Camp 2021

In term 3, the year nines were given the opportunity to travel to Kalbarri for our outdoor education program. Attending the camp meant we would have to put our teamwork and leadership skills to the test and display them as much as possible. I was in rotation one, which meant my group was up first. We caught the bus to the camp which was roughly about a 7-hour drive. We stopped for a couple of breaks in between the drive to ensure we were nourished and hydrated.

Once we reached the camp, we gathered into our groups and began setting up our tents and hiking packs. Setting up the tents shouldn’t have been as difficult as it was, but the rain was preventing us from getting it done quickly. This is where teamwork is an important capability when committing to a job that may need more than one person. My tent group was able to help each other by allocating each person a job on the tent.

On our hike to our next camp, we walked in a line for the whole trip. This procedure was to ensure that everyone was safe and if an injury somehow occurred, there would always be someone to assist them. Leadership is also a capability displayed while hiking. There is always someone at the front of the line, who is preferably a little faster at hiking. You could volunteer to be at the front and lead the rest of the group to the desired destination. If you have this role, you must regularly check on the others in case they need a quick break.

Overall, camp was a somewhat enjoyable experience yet very tiring. I would definitely recommend it if you love a good challenge and maybe a good workout.
