Visual arts – Illumin8 transition festival – piñatas

Roberto Benavidez inspiration:

In project X we had to take inspiration from Roberto Benavidez and make a mythical animal. We ended up crossing 2 animals together or finding a mythical one to draw. We used Roberto’s pinatas as a guide to make our own ones. We used their paper-making skills as a guide or a goal for what we should do.

The process:

Drawing: 1st we had to find a mythical animal to draw for ideas for our pinatas. We went on the internet and saw animals that we thought were cool and cute, and drew them all up on a sheet of A3 paper. We had to draw a minimum of 4 animals and in our pairs, we would choose our favourite or combine 2 of our favourites

Colour scheme: In our pairs, we had to photocopy our favourite design 4 times and make 2 colours schemes per person. We coloured in the designs and picked our favourites after we were both done.

Making the line and outside: After that, we sent off our design outline to the laser cutter to get it cut into cardboard sheets for our template. After they came back, we had to wrap a sheet of flimsy cardboard around the design outline and make sure to get all of the little crevices. Once we got one whole side taped up and secure, we had to tape the other side to the cardboard, and this was infinitely harder because we could not move the cardboard to our will, and it had gone to a less defined outline the further from the side it got. But we eventually got there.

Painting and papering: After we finished the cardboard outline, we had to paint the whole things white, so that, 1.) we would have an even base and 2.) it would help to keep the tape and cardboard together and stop them from falling apart. After that dried, we had to cut out coloured paper with the colour scheme we picked. it took us 6 lessons to finish it and then after that all we had to do was add pompoms and lights and we were done 🙂

English portfolio

How I’ve been doing in English:
During English, I feel like I have been struggling to grasp the concepts of some of the topics we have been studying and do not understand them. This probably leads into why I am not studying the material because I do not understand it. I have not failed the subject yet, but I’m not excelling either.

What I think I could improve with:

I think that if I asked for help from peers and teachers, It could help me to understand the topic better so that when I do things for myself like the assessments I have a better and try to spend more time understanding the task at hand I could improve.

What  I expected at the start of the year:
At the start of the year, I didn’t think I would be getting A’s and 90-100%s because I never had but I did think that I would be getting in that 70-80 zone in getting a B. I thought that English was easy because I was in extension last year and that this year it would be easier than the last but the course this year caught me off guard.

Am I happy with where I am:

I’m ok with where I am right now. I’m not failing English but I’m not happy with it. I want to get higher marks in the future and get better results because English is a core subject that will be needed for future years.

What can I do to help myself and get better:

I thought about it and I thought that I could probably start studying the work we are doing and pay a little bit more attention in class.

The ASC capabilities wheel

During the semester I was one of the few people that were dedicated to sorting bottle caps. The two ways that we sorted bottle caps were by bottle type and the other was by colour. It took a very long time to sort out all of the bottle caps and we had to restart once because all of the bottle types were mixed together.
