Camp 2020

This year for our school camp we went to kalbarri. We learnt to be in a team and lead the team. We each had a go at being a team leader, food crew, environment crew, hygiene crew, and cooking crew as well. so we rotated through them all and had goes at doing all different things. Below is a photo of me leading the trail. There were lots of experiences that bonded us as a group that helped you work in a group. An example of this would be going on a hike to the placid pools, a swimming spot in the gorges. We had to make sure that everyone got there safely in a group because there were a lot of rocks and hard parts of the walk that could be dangerous. We decided as a group that every so often that the people at the front would turn around to see where the people at the back were and if we couldn’t see them we would yell pop and if we heard corn we could keep walking but if there was nothing we had to wait at till we all got there so we could all have a small break. We also tried getting the person who is slowest to go at the front so we were all going the same pace and weren’t leaving people behind. it brought us all together and helped us learn how to make sure everyone in a group is ok. We all had a go being a group leader. being a group leader included making sure no one got left behind, initiating the number-offs, getting everyone ready on time, deciding how long we had to do things. It helped everyone develop their leadership skills and become more confident as a leader. One of the team building Activities we did was were we had to get into two groups, each with a piece of tarp and we had to get a ball to bounce off the tarp onto the other tarp. We had to time it correctly and work as a team to make the ball go to the other team. Even though we were in two different teams which we had to work together in we also had to all work in one team to get the ball across. We also all had matching friendship bracelets we all had to choose the colours together as a big group. We ended up choosing purple and light blue because we all liked those colours and they worked well together. It helped us become better at teamwork and more comfortable doing leadership.

A growth mindset

I play netball for the palmyra rebels. It’s not a super serious team or anything, but we do like to win. But the only problem is we have lost all almost all of our games this year which is weird because last year we got to the semi-finals. So we have had a pretty fixed mindset lately and haven’t thought been thinking very positavely. But, on the weekend we were versing a team that was 3rd on the ladder, so we were not expecting to win but we did try as hard as we could and during the game our mindset changed from fixed to growth and we did really well, we were up by like 7 the whole game, but in the last quarter they caught up with us and in the end we didn’t win but we did draw. And even though we didn’t win it was so good because we didn’t loose and they were one of the best teams so we were pretty proud of ourselves.

InnovateED

For the past few months during InnovateED we have been trying to come up with a solution to the problem that Amana Living presented us with. We decided to work in two smaller groups and the decide which one one we like most. We came up with a lot of ideas but ultimatly the idea we went with was a bunch of little free libraries to get the residents to connect with the community and read and learn in the company of others.
