HASS Progress Report: 1

As part of our Year 10 humanities course we are able to research a project of our own choice and to create an outcome to showcase at a final exhibition in Term 4. The topic we have chosen to research, is what are the effects of 9/11 now and then? We chose this topic because this year is the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and my partner and I have both found it interesting how the world has changed and adapted since the terrible event.

So far we have chosen, referenced and summarised the sources, that will give us relevant and valued information to our project. We have also identified the capabilities that we need to use for this project.

  • Ethical: We identified our need to be ethical because we want to make sure that we don’t offend anyone with our 9/11 project.
  • Organisation: We wanted to maintain an organised work routine to make sure that we stay on schedule and don’t leave any parts of the project to the last minute.
  • Collaboration: Collaboration was another key capability we want to use to make sure we keep each other updated on our progress and ideas while splitting the work equally to ensure everything is done without double up and missing parts.

Our plan for continuing our project includes collecting all the necessary information we can gather from our research into one place. Then, based on our research, start planning out the construction of our 9/11 model, making sure that anything we plan to do is will be ethically acceptable. Also to construct our presentation on the effects of 9/11 from then to now.

  1. Well layed-out, good information. Could add more information on how the world has changed since the event.

  2. I like how you have included your capabilities in detail and in relation to your work.
You have not really talked about what you have done and what you intend on doing.
You need to create a timeline for the future to keep yourself on track.
show some of what you have researched in your e-portfolio

  3. – Say if you are doing history, civics, geography, or economics. I’m assuming its history but maybe clarify
    – do you have a plan? what is it?

  4. When making this update, make sure there is everything included like the timeline for the project. This will allow you to explain the plans you have further on in the future so you can expand on your ideas instead of simply saying “I plan on collecting information”. In addition, some of the sentences could be formatted better, like using quotations when using talking about your idea. This prevents it from looking as though the ideas are unfishied. (“The topic we have chosen to research, is what are the effects of 9/11 now and then?”)

  5. I think the topic is an interesting one that can provide a lot of insight into 911, however you should find a more effective way to communicate your information. I like the idea of the model though.

  6. I really like the topic you have chosen and why you have chosen it. One thing that you could better is to talk more about what effects, as I am not sure whether you are talking about mental, physical or economical effects. Apart from that it looks as though you have made a good start.

  7. We think that the capabilities needed for this project have been identified and well explain. Also, the project outline and topic is clear. However, we think that the use of a timeline would be good so you can keep track of what needs to be done each week. Perhaps in your next update, you can go into more detail about what your final project might look like.

  8. I think that the capabilities you need for the project are well identified and explained. In order to improve your project, I think that to improve and progress in your project, it will be best if you added in a timeline to plan out your work well. It may also help if you create a more detailed exhibition plan so that you have a better idea of what you are working towards. In your next update, it may also help to identify your research questions so people can see the research you have completed.

  9. I think that using ethics as your first and main capability is an amazing choice and something to always keep in mind when looking at such a heavy topic. I really appreciate how you are choosing to approach this topic with the sensitivity required, and the fact that you are able to approach this subject with enough maturity and to show that is great.

Please use subheadings to divide and organise the content that you present in your progress reports.

A good idea would be to give deeper insight and detail as to exactly what the purpose of the model is and what you want to do with it. For example, are you attempting to just show the general concept of physical effects? or are you trying to give a deeper insight into the more personal and worldwide effects this event had? how will your model show these effects? Is your plan to simply just have a physical model? or is it going to have additional content to present an idea or discussion?

A detailed plan and timeline for your approach and a general understanding of how you are going to approach this in the coming weeks may also be a good idea to include.

otherwise a good start, simply a higher level of detail and presentation with certain topics of importance is required.
