LED Trophy “Sleep”

Creativity? Check.

Problem solving? Check.

Critical thinking? Planning and designing? Operating machinery?

Check. Check. Check.

A little dash of shine to the finished product?

Another tick!

I designed and produced a LED Trophy using the capabilities above. And many other skills were learnt and developed through the project. Those skills included machinery such as the table saw, electrical soldering equipment, and the buffing wheel.

In the initial design process, I considered the shape, texture, colour, and engraved design of the finished product. It was important to plan the design beforehand. I sketched out the design from different perspectives to ensure parts like the battery pack fitted inside the housing.

Using creativity for the laser-engraved design, I linked together and convey different ideas.

The light bulb symbolised, after sleep we can come up with great ideas! I wrote the text in a way that looks like a dictionary definition. The same style, with the formal tone except I replaced it to add some comedy.

When I was onto the production, I worked around any issues that occurred. Like when I was buffing the clear acrylic to make it shiny, something called ‘burn’ was caught on the side and left scratchy marks. To solve it I asked for feedback from the teacher and went back to sanding, then buffing again.

To finish it all off, was a silver vinyl sticker.

Overall this was a fun process where I was able to use and learn many production skills and capabilities in the woodworking, soldering + design space.
