Chickens Innovated

This year, my group (Charlotte, Isabella, Kate and myself) had the opportunity to work with the chickens for term 1 and 2. Every Monday morning, we went down to the chicken coop and cleaned out their pen, gave them fresh water, feed them food and collect their eggs. We used the eggs to cook things with and we made a recipe book with all of the food we cooked, using the chicken’s eggs.

For my InnovatED for term 1 & 2, I chose to do the chickens. We had to choose what we could do within being in the group of the chickens, and my group of 6 decided to do cooking with eggs, where we cook recipes using the school chickens eggs and then we make a recipe out of it. We were originally going to cook with the junior school kids, but then COVID hit, so we weren’t allowed to mix year groups anymore. So then we had to decide to make the cook book. I enjoyed this project a lot because I was in a group with my friends and I also got to cook things in the kitchen room, then I got to eat them, which was my favourite part.

Some of the challenges we faced were the cooking parts. Some of the recipes we used failed, and didn’t turn out like we wanted it to. We could still eat it and it tasted the same, it just didn’t look the same as the recipe had. Another challenge is some people were off task, or weren’t concentrating properly, so some group members had to do more work than others. But in the end, we managed to create an amazing looking cook book, and some delicious food. 🙂
