English 2023

Achievements

This year in English I think have done better than I did last year with writing, I think I’ve done better at paragraphing, and using TEEL. I also think become better at answering the question how it was supposed to be answered, answering the question right.

Process

I got better at writing by having tutoring lessons, and spending more time paying attention to my editing. I had been doing the tutoring lesson for a few years and has helped me get better at writing and English in general. So I could answer the questions properly I read over the question and in some of the test I highlighted the important parts or the things I needed to focus on. I also read over the question a few times to get in my head what I needed to answer and how I was supposed to do that.

How I Felt

During tutoring it was very boring and most of the time I didn’t feel like it was helping anything and I was thinking it was a waste of time. By reading over the question a few times and highlighting I found that it would take longer and in some of the more time consuming test like the essays it could be stressful making it harder to finish the test, but for the more short or long answer test where there is more time for planning the rereading the question is useful to answer the question properly.

Where to from here

My next goal is to right more for my answers so I can get more marks for my work. I can do this by planning out what needs to be written, and then I can write more about it. Once I have written more I will need to also edit it which means I need more time do that so I will need to write quicker.

Reflection of the Spaghetti tower

Summary of Spaghetti Tower Earthquake Project

I this project we were tasked to make a tower out of spaghetti and bluetack. We had to only use limited amount which could total to $60. One piece of spaghetti is $1 a one gram of bluetack is $1.

During the project we designed what we were going to make, and an estimate of how much of the materials we needed to use.

After we had finalized a design we started to create a prototype. During our prototype we struggled to get it tall enough, with the structure being to unstable to hold the weight of the full height. So because of this we slightly modified our design to make it more structurally strong.

After we finished building the prototype we put it on the shake table. Then we videoed it being shook. It did well and did not fall or break.

For our second prototype we had to change the design so the bluetack was attached to the bottom and was by its self. Once that was done we did the shake test on that design. It did well too and didn’t break in any way.

Engineering Process

Our engineering process in this project included us making the designs and tweaking it to keep it stable. We used lots of triangles in the building structure to keep it stable. We also used beams that connected half way up the tower to the bottom to add extra support and to stop the structure from turning and spinning.  We also change designs slightly to have a square base but still having triangles going up on the wall parts.

Roles in this project

In the project the roles that were all were eh bluetack person who would attach the blutack to the spaghetti. Then there was the person that got the spaghetti ready to attach and then there was the assembler who would put the ready parts together.

This was my experience of making the spaghetti tower.

Media Semester reflection

Presentation Night

On the presentation night it was a good presentation but the tarps that the projector was projecting on was really wrinkly and the audio wasn’t very good because each film was playing at the same time.

My Movie/ Film

I think that our film was good but could have been better if we had of made it a bit longer to build more suspense. We could have also made the light bulb moment more clear because it seem a bit purposeless to have the lightbulb moment like it was. In the film I think we did well by acting our parts well and have good camera work.

Health Assessment Term 1

Task 1 House of Values

My three core values are Perseverance, Cooperation and Loyalty

Perseverance because you have to keep on going and do all you can to do your best. An example would be an assessment that is tricky but you need to persevere through it.

Loyalty because you build up trust and people respect you more. Then when you need help with something it isn’t hard to find it.

Cooperation because if you can’t cooperate then it would become very hard to do things in groups. Like when we did Project Utopia we had to work in groups that we didn’t choose so we had to cooperate so things would get done.

Task 2. Who are my role models?

A healthy role model is a person that you look up to or wish to be that is a good person and makes good decisions. A healthy role model is someone worthy of respect. Nathan Fyfe is my role model because he does all he can to be healthy with what he does. He has also won the brown low medal and that is something I look up to because I want to get a brown low medal too. His perseverance and his mindset of “Fremantle can do it all” has won the dockers many games now and has made the team better because of him. He is also a well-known player across Australia.

Task 3. The good

Select a person who is a healthy role model for you or for young people and answer the following questions

Mark Rober

  1. What behaviours does this person demonstrate to show they are a healthy role model?

This person shows they are a healthy role model by showing you how to do what he does then making you understand and making you learn. Because he is a science YouTuber and shows you the flaws of things and shows you how to overcome them.

2. What do they look like? Are they healthy? How do you know?

He looks like a good person that has a hobby for science. He is healthy because he helps people understand science in a fun way. I know because of the way he acts and how steps you through things because he wants you to know about how things work.

3. What message does this person promote.

Mark Rober promotes the message that science can be interesting and fun.

4. Why should this person be a role model

Mark Rober is a role model because he is a person that is making ur education higher and in a fun way that means you can watch as a show or TV channel.

5. Thinking back to your House of Values activity, what values does this person demonstrate?

Mark Rober has the values of a nice entertaining person that likes to share his knowledge. When he is doing his videos he is always kind to the people that he talks to. He promotes learning to his target audience about science.

Task 4. The bad

Donald Trump

Trump says getting rid of "bad" people made him successful - The San Diego Union-Tribune
The Senseless Cruelty of Donald J. Trump - The Atlantic

1. What behaviours do this person demonstrate to show that they are unhealthy?

Donald Trump shows that he is unhealthy because he tells people what they should do and tell them to start riots and campaigns to support his idea, not the people that follow him. He also tells people about things to help you. Like he said to put hand sanitiser in your skin to help you fight off Covid-19. His appearance looks unhealthy in that he looks overweight. His facial expressions are mainly angry or negative making him seem like a bad person.

2. What do they like to do?

Donald Trump likes to talk I think. Because he is always wanting the centre of attention. Even now after he has been de-elected he is still reaching out to the public to tell people his opinion and act as if he is still president.

3. What message does this person promote?

To me, he promotes the message of freedom to do what you want. That isn’t unhealthy, it is the way that he promotes the message and how he says it. He says it like you should do what you want even if it is dangerous to you and others. He also encouraged people to storm the white house.

4. Do I think young people should look up to him as a role model?

No, because he is a megalomaniac. He is this because he is power-hungry and always wants people to follow his opinions.

5. Is everything I read and see in the media true?

A lot of the images of him are of him seeming power-hungry and having angry faces. Making him seem like a mean and angry person. But he also has a lot of supporters which can make you then think that he is also a good person or role model. So no not everything I read is true because you only see one side and yes some things are true but you have to interpret what the people are doing to find out.
