Chicken Project

During Term 2, Ruby, Ryan, Aynesh and I were put in a group, with the end goal of protecting chickens from mites. We put lemon juice and garlic in This was a long process with many steps, but I feel that by the time of the showcase, we were well prepared and our project was completed to a high standard.

Some challenges that we faced:

  • group members being away during InnovatED
  • not having ingredients that we needed to make the dust bath
  • our organization skills were not great at times

Although we faced challenges, our group worked effectively together and our project was a success. Challenges are good learning experiences, and if the project was a breeze and there were no problems, it wouldn’t have been any fun.

On the day of the Showcase, we had four people visit our project, including Mrs Provis. We explained the purpose of our project and showed them around the chicken coop. A challenge we faced on the day was not having a knife to cut the lemon and garlic, so we had to improvise and use a ruler. Also, our table was at an inconvenient location (at the hangar), so we didn’t have many people come to our stall.

In conclusion, our project of protecting the chickens from mites was a success. We could have probably benefited from more time to get prepared for the Showcase, but all in all my team and I did an excellent job.
