This week I had the opportunity to mentor a new volunteer at church. Every month I serve multiple times in the production team. The team as a whole has the job of running the livestreams and capturing the sermons. I joined the team a while ago, as the youngest recruit, however over the past year I have had the opportunity to mentor and teach two new volunteers, both in year 7.
I begun teaching them the basics of camera one and two- which remain stationary throughout the service. Capturing snapshots and memories has always been a passion of mine, and so teaching them reminded me of when I was first introduced to all the equipment. I went through the zoom buttons, how to adjust the aperture, focus, and how to find a comfortable tripod setting. Throughout the first service I guided them through the communications system, and then taught them the workings of the stage cameras before the second service. To me, in order to serve you need to have the passion and the willingness to turn up early in the morning and enjoy the learning process of being able to learn how to use such professional equipment. It was so cool to be able to see these characteristics in the younger kids I was mentoring, and it made it so easy to relate and connect with them. I was super impressed by their dedication and involvement, and it made me realise how important it is for me to share the knowledge I have, as it can really influence others.
