Greetings. Following these past 5 weeks, we’ve been working on a project- the Christmas Market. This project allows us to be innovative and also lets us make our own projects, and sell them to the year fives and sixes of the college. The project that my group is working on is Hama beads, which is a form of melt able pixel art that you can make into different designs. For example, you could make a pixel art of a snoopy, iron it, and then sell it. We’re making 4 different sizes- little, small, medium and large, sold at variating prices. During this, we had to make a timeline. Here is what we’ve done, starting from week 2, to week 5.

Week 2:

In this week, we got to pick our groups for the market. We had to pick either a group of 3 or 4. I went with Caitlin Ting and Eba Chi. After this was done, we had to brainstorm a bunch of different ideas that we were going to do for the market. Our group thought for a while, then we had the idea to do Hama beads. This could be easily done since we already had some.

This was our poster. We used different colours for it, as well as adding the font and also logo. We added the pricing and the slogan on the logo too.

Week 3:

After this, we made a pitch to the class, so that we could get the money that we needed to be able to begin the production. We also made a few posters for advertising. Our group would be called HamaPix. With this money, we were able to buy what we needed for the market… After this, we headed over to Caitlin’s house, so that we could make the Hama beads that we needed to sell. We only made a few during that time, as sometimes they require a lot of time and concentration. However, this work was fine as we also did the business plan in that time.

Week 4:

In this week, I went to the craft shop to buy what we needed. We bought keychains, and magnets. On sunday this week, we went to Caitlin’s house again to do more work. We made a lot of progress in this time, and managed to finish all the products we needed to make.

Week 5:

On Tuesday this week, we did work involving making these items into magnets and keychains. We used superglue to put the magnets on, and opened the keychains to place them in the Hama beads. On Wednesday, we then got the English assignment to make a poster for the market, with our own design.

Week 6: the week of the market!

This week was the final time that we would work on the market. We priced the items as $1-$5 pricing. We worked in English on Friday, the day of the market, to make a pretend market setup. We got all our items, a tablecloth and some price cards. On the actual market, we had to set up inside the common shaded areas due to the bad weather. We had to change the pricing to either more expensive, or cheaper.

We started selling and managed to make quite a lot of sales. After the market was completed, we counted up all the money and removed the float money, ($30), and the investment money ($20). We actually received $30 but only spent $20 on our items.

The Money.

We received $30 investment money to actually buy the items required. We only spent $20.

What we spent it on-

1x pack of magnets= $3.50

2x pack of keyrings= $7.00

1x box of hama beads= $9.50

Total= $20.00

After this was done, we started making the products. We made around 35 hama bead products, ranging from tiny to large. We ended up selling the broken products for only $1.

On the day before the market, we got a float of $30 ($10 per person). This would be used for change for the students, in case they brought too much money. We sold 19 products and made a total of $44.10.

Including the float money, this was $74.10. Including the investment money, $94.10. We removed $50 from the $94.10, and our total profit was $44.10. There was only 1 sale using credit card, and nothing else.

This was a poster of what we learnt. We learnt about-

-supply and demand

-adverts

-pricing

-competition

-customer service

-scarcity

What we learnt!

We learnt how to sell properly to others. We also learnt how to advertise properly, do proper customer service and make sure that the pricing wouldn’t be too high or low. We also learnt how to work as a group, scarcity, and also the competition that we would be against, considering there were multiple hama bead groups around the area.
