Dear Mr Lim,

I am writing to ask you to support the reintroduction of the “Carbon Pricing Scheme,” a taxation which was employed for Australian businesses between 2012 and 2013.

I am a resident of your electorate in Tangney, and I am worried because the “Carbon Pricing Scheme” is not currently being used in Australia. I am deeply concerned about the impact this will have on our environment, and on the wildlife species in Australia.

As you would be aware, on the 1st of July 2012 the “Carbon Pricing Scheme” was officially installed by the Australian Government. This taxation was used to control carbon emissions in Australia, with the intention that companies would be discouraged to burn fossil fuels as often, because they would have to pay an extra fee. Unfortunately, the government changed their stance on this issue and terminated the “Carbon Tax” on September 7th, 2013.

The “Carbon Pricing Scheme” was removed quite shortly after it was introduced. Despite this, statistics show that the taxation had an immediate impact on carbon pollution levels in Australia. The annual levels of carbon dioxide emissions in Australia decreased severely, from 410 million tonnes to 390 million tonnes, according to the CDIAC (Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Centre). Carbon emissions dropped almost immediately after the law was introduced, as businesses moved to more environmentally – friendly technology that emitted less carbon.

When carbon emissions are released into the atmosphere many negative outcomes are caused. There is an increase in the global temperature, which directly leads to climate change/ global warming. Due to the rising temperature wildlife species are also impacted and put in huge amounts of stress.

These scenarios are very concerning, because they could seriously impact the process of human and environmental life. If this decision comes into effect, it will be the most efficient way to reduce and eradicate the problems caused by greenhouse gasses.

I do fear that the absence of this law will cause an extensive amount of environmental damage , which is a major concern for other children like myself. We would prefer to live in a world free of pollution and want an undamaged environment to live in when we are older. Do you really want future generations to deal with a massive carbon debt?

Therefore, I ask you to support the re – establishment  of the “Carbon Pricing Scheme”, and to assist Australia in sustaining its wonderful environment from the effects of carbon dioxide.

Yours Sincerely,

Ved Pulikot
