Anzac Day Performance at CraigCare

Covid-19 significantly impacted the world. The virus brought everyone into quarantine where isolation was unpleasant but vital. We all had the same bad experiences but our elders, especially the ones confined in retirement homes had it much worse. Kept in a small building with no interaction of their family or outside world, they would have had no-one to talk to or nothing to do for such a long period of time. How nasty would that be? I know that I  wouldn’t be able to bare it.  On top of this, Covid-19 ran over the event of Anzac Day which the elders would not be able to commemorate with their families.

So, because of this, my sister and I decided to participate in the dawn service, both of us playing the last post outside our homes at 6:00 am. Also, later that day, I had been contacted by my local retirement home, CraigsCare, to perform the last post again for the elderly there. It was an amazing experience, seeing all the residents come together on AnzacDay. After my performance, I was extremely surprised and honoured as the staff of CraigsCare brought out a war veteran who saluted to me. I’m glad that I got to share something with the residents at CraigCare that day and also entertain/brighten up their day.

Overall, both the dawn service and performance were memorable experiences that I’m glad I participated in.
