For the past 6 weeks, I was involved in a jazz ensemble consisting of students around Perth in years 10-12. It was an exciting opportunity, getting to meet other musicians and experience playing in a semi-advanced ensemble. The rehearsals spanned over 6 weeks at WAAPA, from 4:30-5:30 pm. Nick Abbey was the director of the band, a helpful mentor to all of us, quick to suggesting various stylistic tips and ideas. The setlist consisted of 8 standards, (3 vocal, 1 quintet, 4 band standards). The performance was on the 17th of May, many respected staff such as Chris Tarr, Tom’O Halloran, Jamie Oehlers, Chris Foster etc.

It was a great night and experience overall, and I would gladly get back with the band again to perform another set of standards again.
