Welcome!

Wellbeing Expo

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

Doing this project definitely expanded our knowledge of eating disorders. While conducting our research, we found out about the wide variety of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, ARFID and binge-eating). We also learnt about the true ways to approach someone with an eating disorder to make sure they are comfortable with your approach. This includes helping them build their self confidence and assisting them I finding professional help. We learnt that a person with an eating disorder may not be up to being proactive about changing, however we must insist of helping them (in the nicest possible way). But most of all, we discovered that eating disorders grow from low self-confidence of oneself, which we then lead our expo project on. Low self-confidence is extremely common in teens. This is why we decided to have this as our expo topic. It’s important to spread awarness and expand our knowledge onto others so they too can be aware. Overall, this project gave us a greater understanding and a large amount of knowledge of our topic.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young people with regards to wellbeing above all else? Why?

I would advise that all young people look after their wellbeing because it is incredibly important to maintain a balanced, happy and healthy life. One piece of advice I would give to teenagers is to learn new skills. It is very important to have a wide range of coping strategies when dealing with difficult times. By learning new skills like art, music, sports or journalling, you can meet new people/create new relationships, and build your knowledge, whilst having fun. I would also recommend eating well to fuel the body and energy levels. Healthy food improves moods, health and wellbeing. All young people should choose nutritious food to eat and follow the government guides of how many vegetables and fruits you should eat. I would also suggest making home cooked meals, it is a good skill to have, and it will help your wellbeing. Lastly, drinking water and hydrating throughout the day supports clear thinking and concentration which helps your wellbeing. All young people should have a water bottle and drink at least 2L a day.

Write down a pledge that you will commit to in regards to your own wellbeing. Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitments?

I… (write your name) promise to prioritise my wellbeing in every circumstance and constantly reflect upon my mental state in order to improve my mental health and wellbeing. I promise to do this by involving myself in daily activities such as journalling, exercising, reflecting and other activities that will help me check in on my state of wellbeing as well as improve it.

I understand the importance of maintaining good mental health and takin care of my wellbeing. I am aware of the fact that mental illness are a reality that many struggle with, which is why wellbeing is an essential part in ensuring mental health.
