Year 9 English Review

Throughout this year I have completed a variety of different English assessments. Including short answer questions, essays, writing stories and oral presentations. Overall my results have all been positive and have reflected the effort I have put into each test. My greatest achievement this year in English in my opinion was the first assessment where we created a podcast.

Achievement:

The podcast task was to plan, create and present an original podcast using podcast conventions. I was partnered with Isabella and we got 86%, which was my highest English mark this year. Our topic was “lies parents tell their children” and we discussed the many funny and creative myths that are well-known among people. some included that your hair will go curly if you eat your crusts or that if you eat carrots you will see in the dark. We had about 4 weeks to complete this task. We agreed that our podcast was entertaining and caught the attention of the listener well. We also had confident speaking skills as we had prepared a good script.

How did I feel about my achievement?

I was very proud of this assessment as we had worked hard and effectively as a group and it had paid off. I enjoyed working with Isabella and it was a fun and creative task. Compared to analysing I feel I am more confident in the creative tasks. Overall this year in English there was a clear improvement from last year.

My strengths and weaknesses:

This year in English it is clear I am stronger in the creative aspects rather than the analytical aspects. I feel I struggle more with the in-class tasks and working under pressure whereas take-home assessments such as writing a story or making a podcast I excel more in. I have improved in my analysis of texts over the year and I am more confident in answering short answer questions but I have lots of room to improve.
