Illuminate Festival Art Project

As a celebration of moving away from transition and into year 9 I and a lot of year 8s took part in the Illuminate festival. The Illuminate festival is an opportunity for us to showcase what we learnt during project X this semester. For project X this semester I chose visual art and we were put into pairs and worked together to make a pinata.

With my partner, we both made separate designs and combined features of both designs to create a new one. Our final design had aspects of both original designs and we both were happy with the end product. Our end pinata was different from our final design as we had to adapt and problem-solve as the colour choices were limited and we had to make changes to the final design.

We made our pinatas by outlining and laser-cutting some cardboard into the outline of our pinata. Then we used some bendable cardboard and masking tape to tape it around the outside to create the shape. We then secured the other side of the cardboard onto the first bit to create our pinata.

To seal our pinata and to make sure that there were no cracks we then painted over it with gesso. Once it was dry we got metallic paper and cut out some shapes to be layered on our pinata. We wanted our pinata to be brightly coloured and we struggled with what colour it should be because the colours were limited and we didn’t have enough time so we settled for this.

After we’ve stuck the paper onto our pinata we then painted the sides. We made it so it was a gradient as It felt like one colour didn’t match our pinata. Once we’ve done that we had to stick on the lights and pom poms by hot glueing them.
