HASS Project

As part of our year 10 Humanities course, we are able to research a project of our own choice and to create an outcome to showcase at a final exhibition in Term 4.

Stella and Persis and I were given civics as a topic to research, from which we determined that our main focus area is refugees. Our main inquiry question is “What factors are considered in destining refugees?”, a question that is essentials, about what is internationally deemed important for refugees to be in order for them to be accepted into a country, or into Australia (given our context). The steps I have completed so far include finishing the project summary, creating an essential question, and the capabilities wheel. I have also completed the initial annotated bibliography research and have 10 sources that I have summarised and assessed in terms of relevance. This has led to my further thinking regarding more questions that are connected to and will help answer, the “essential question” we already established. In terms of group work, we have roughly divided the work, first dividing it into two categories- the first being research, and the second being the actual production of our final project. We have agreed to split each of the categories into three equal parts and distribute the work that way. This will ensure we have a range of tasks to complete each, so the work doesn’t become monotonous.

Our plan moving forwards includes planning the roles of our group members in more detail, as well as finishing a timeline that will help us stay on track and monitor our progress and workflow in the coming weeks leading up to the exhibition. After this is complete, we also intend on researching further into the topics we discovered through our annotated bibliographies and also making sure that our project is appealing to our audience by checking through any feedback we get and altering our ideas accordingly.
