Lets Participate…

I believe I naturally and enthusiastically engage myself in house activities at every opportunity and believe my energy and commitment is obvious to those that I work with and helps improve their experience. Whether in planning, organising, running, or just participating in events I do so eagerly and joyously.

The activities I have done include brainstorming and planning house council activities, physically setting up stations for tutor group activities such as dexterity games where I set out stations for students to play, playing card games as well as running them. I have written out scripts and instructions and delivered them articulately to groups. I always arrive early to set out equipment and stay late to pack away and straighten up. You will often find me recording names for activities, encouraging my peers to participate in interhouse sport, debating and quiz activities. I have baked food and brought in items for tutor gifts, I have printed, laminated, cut and organised photos of year 12s into farewell bags for them to take when they graduate. I have organised and packed prizes for house activities as well. I have collected equipment, set up goals and refereed interhouse sport games. I am always helping with debating, where I run debates, research and write out points for debaters and provided emotional support. When marshalling I follow up students all over the campus or in stadiums to ensure everyone is where they need to be.

Interhouse sport coaching and umpiring is another activity I have been honoured to participate in this year. For me, this is not only a way to connect with peers, and meet members of other houses, as well as form relationships with people in your own house, it is a time to develop. During the last session I umpired and coached, I went out of my way to have a team huddle where I urged my team to pass to players of both sex and encouraged the team to work together.

Debating is one of my favourite activities to participate in, while I am not the best debater, I have helped year eights, nines and tens with coaching, writing, organising, and planning debates. I have also been the timekeeper for debates multiple times. Even when I am not scheduled to aid in a debate, whenever there is a Forrest debate on, I make sure to always stop by to encourage my fellow peers, provide support, set up the room as well as unpack and just watch, as it makes me proud to see Forrest students coming out of their comfort zone and trying their hardest.

Marshalling is another activity that always I jump at participating in. I get such a sense of achievement as well as pride when I am able to help an event run smoothly that people have put lots of effort into. I have marshalled many swimming and athletics carnivals over the years, too many to count!

Assisting with other house activities such as tours and house days is another one of the things that brings me joy. I believe that helping with tours is one of the most positive things I can do for this school. As All Saints’ have been so good to me, it is my duty to help parents and potential students to learn about what a wonderful place out College is and why it means so much to me. However, possibly my favourite activity is house days. Meeting the year sevens last year and running activities with them was one of the best experiences I have had at the college. While writing a letter of advice to the year sevens, I realised how far I had come and how much the college has helped me grow into the person I am today. Participating in house day activities has meant that I have made relationships with multiple year sevens, and often get updates on their lives when walking around the common.
