Christmas Market Reflection

What is the Christmas Market About?

The Christmas Market is about how to manage a business in teams. My group members are: Shola, Grace C and I. Within the time period of 4-5 weeks, we had to produce products within the budget of $30.00 to sell during lunch at the Christmas Market. My group’s market name was Tote Bags 4 You, and our product that we sold was hand painted tote bags.

The main idea of this project is to improve and learn more about businesses in the real world. To figure out the final idea for the Christmas Market, we had to brainstorm 25 ideas and research a couple of them.

Steps:

  1. Get into groups of 2-3
  2. Brainstorm ideas
  3. Research ideas
  4. Create a presentation and get approved
  5. Receive $30.00
  6. Start producing the products
  7. Sell products

Difficulties:

Some of the difficulties my group faced were the stall location. On the Christmas Market day, my stall was located outside the canteen near the bins. It was a windy and rainy day, but luckily my stall was under covers. Most of the product flew off the table, making it hard to keep on the table and hard to sell them as the bags kept folding not presenting the logo designs.

Successes:

  • My group managed to finish all the products in time for the Christmas Market to take place. Within the time period we finished painting all the tote bags.
  • Having friendly small talk with customers
  • Made profit of $17.00
  • Being able to pay back the school loan of $30.00

Budget:

Out of the total budget we received of $30.00, my group spent $29.40. Each individual product cost $4.25 to produce.

Project Utopia Reflection:

How It Began:

It all began with an English assignment that included reading a book named “The Giver”. The purpose of this book were people living in a perfect world, with strict rules. This connected with Fremantle Port as the port was getting a new design. A few weeks later, the whole cohort went on a field trip to Fremantle Port to have a look around. We couldn’t see the whole place as the sizing was really big. Everyone got put into a group to create a vision board about their perspective of how they would like Fremantle Port to look like. Fremantle Port had to consist of many topics to make the space liveable, some topics are: housing, transportation, entertainment, culture and more. It also had to include global goals,  Once everyone finished their group vision board, we had to present to the parents that came in. I wasn’t there due to COVID-19 so I couldn’t experience how it went.

Vision Board:

Model Section:

It was a new term which meant we got new groups, instead of creating a vision board each class got a cut out map with pieces that were separated. The piece that my group got was the top left hand side. My group mainly focused on greenery, since most of our piece was covered in water. Our main idea was to create a nature walk along the slim section that leaded up to the light house. To create this idea, we expanded the width of the slim section. The nature walk will include a variety of different plants from different countries. Each plant will have a small facts section, such as the origin or life span of the plant. This will open up learning opportunities about plants and the country it was originated from.

Experts:

Throughout the term on different weeks, some experts came to visit our school. They had a brief introduction saying their name and their occupation, and sometimes their knowledge such as housing. What’s special about these experts is that they all have different knowledge about different topics, which makes it more valuable. Each week during InnovatED there would be a group of experts around 3-4 people come in and share, each expert had different information in that group. But next week a similar group from the previous week came in, to make sure that 1 group didn’t have 3-4 people with the same knowledge about the same topic.

Presentation:

For the presentation we had to present our model piece, and a model that our group had either physically or digitally created. Our group decided to create it digitally, we created it on Co-Spaces. We only created a small portion of the nature walk. To only give an idea of how it would look like. Each group spread out in the room and got a table each to display their presentation and model(s). The presentation didn’t have to be long. 1-2 minutes for each speaker. My groups presentation took around about 4-5 minutes.

Conclusion:

The presentations were great, my group had a lot of feedback and questions that we were able to answer. Having the help of the staff and experts were a great help! This project was very creative and got our minds to think of solutions and ideas. In the end the project was a success and gave me a lot of new knowledge and skills about certain topics.

Future of Fremantle

In Term 2 for InnovatED, some people from Fremantle came to ASC to give a presentation about the Fremantle Port and about how the Port is going to be redesigned and would like our ideas for the designing. A few weeks later the whole year 7 took a trip to the Fremantle Port to get an idea about the sizing.

Each tutor group divided their students into groups if 3s or 4s, each group had to come up with ideas for the Fremantle Port. For a few sessions we came up with some ideas and did some scampering.

Scampering is when you either combine ideas, or get rid of some ideas.

Before creating the vision board we spent another few sessions doing some research about 4 different topics and each topic there was a rubric to fill out, global goals, liveability, research, and how it connects to Fremantle.

After a few sessions every group had to design a vision board about some of their ideas either about, transport, housing, entertainment, for grandparents day and present the final product with the group.
