Peer Support

This year I have been lucky enough to work with the Stirling House year eights in the Peer Support Program. At the end of last year I got accepted to be part of this program and ever since I have been working with my peers to develop a series of activities for the year eights. Each week on Thursday during tutor group we meet up with the year eights and do one of our planed activities that are focused on a particular value. Including self-awareness, being proactive and self-esteem. At the end of the session we go into groups and have a debrief, in which involves talking through the activity and what skills/ values they used to over come challenges. I personally got the use teamwork, leadership, communication, respect and empathy. For instance one of the tasks required people to be blindfolded and one person the leader, as the girl was claustrophobic, we allowed her to be the leader, so she was comfortable in her environment. The goal of this program is to help with the year eights transition into upper school and getting to know them better and I have really enjoyed communicating with them and getting to know them individually.
