Drink Driving

During our recent excursion to RAC Arena to learn about the terrible effects of not being street-smart, there was one particular quote that stuck out to me. “It can happen to anyone”, meaning that car accidents can happen to you, your family, loved ones and friends no matter the luck you think you may have. That’s why it’s important to always be safe, aware and focused on the road.

One piece of advice that was significant to me was “don’t make dumb decisions”. Although it is very vague and can be applied to everyday life, it can be extra crucial to driving safely. The effects of a car accident can be more significant than one may think, ranging from emotional damage, financial damage, physical damage and even psychological damage. These also have an effect on the families, friends and loved ones of said victims in the car accident. So its important to always be safe and don’t make dumb decisions when driving.

My pledge to driving- “I will never drink drive, it is a dumb decision. I will be responsible to find solutions by getting a ride, uber, or not drinking”. I chose this to commit to because its not worth the safety of others to drink drive, nor the grievance of families and friends.

I have created a campaign on drink driving and its effects. A common misconception when drink driving is “I’ve only had a few”, which means that people often underestimate how much blood alcohol content they have consumed and often leads to drink driving.

Here are some statistics I’ve gathered to support my case-

  • 33% of all fatal car accidents are caused by drink driving
  • 33% of all drink drivers involved in fatal accidents are aged between 17-24
  • 30% of all drink driving fatalities occur between 9pm and 3am, Thurs, Fri & Sat nights
  • 27% of all fatal crashes in rural areas involve drink drivers
  • 18-20% of all fatal accidents in NSW include drink driving as a factor

That’s why by creating this campaign poster, it can allow for the audience to seriously consider and think twice before driving.
