Art Project Ceramics 2023

Throughout the semester, I worked at my own pace but still reached the deadline for all pieces despite being sick for a few weeks. I made sure to update my visual diary constant and also remembered to photograph all steps of the process.

I developed my idea through pinterest. I began looking at pictures about surrealism and then found some cool ideas about forests and flowers. This then lead to the idea of wildflowers and bundles of them and i decided to incorporate them into my design.

I think that a massive struggle i dealt with was the thickness of the clay, i often ran into problems of it collapsing on itself. I persevered by being patient. I restarted with thicker slabs and drying it out over periods of time to help the particles of the clay bond with less distance between them. I also worked by separate sections instead of placing weight onto soft clay which caused the caving in.

My final result ended up being a thick teapot with a tall steam. I think i did well sticking to my sketches, but i also tweaked some parts to make sure that it would be functional, like lid kept breaking so i changed it to a flower and I made the stem wider so it wouldn’t keep caving in on itself.
