Dear Mr Morton,

I am writing to you to support better rights for asylum seekers.

I am a year 8 student from all saint’s college.

As you are aware the current asylum seekers laws are cruel towards the people that have been forced to leave their country and seek refuge in neighbouring countries. These laws have the asylum seekers forced into detention centres of Australian land. This means that Australia doesn’t have to accept them into their country and could send them back to other countries. There have been cases of the detention centres of breaking human right laws.

I understand that after pressure from various groups of people who are against allowing people in need into the country.

I argue that it is more important for more people in need to be allowed into the country, than other people’s opinions who are against helping people in need. Do you really want to send people back to another country and risk their lives, just because they are an asylum seeker? Australia is one of the lowest refugee acceptance rates. Each year a mere 12,706 refugees are let into Australia compared to America who allows between 70,000 and 90,000.

Once again, I ask for your support as a representative of Western Australia and help change thousands more peoples lives for the better.

Your sincerely,

Jake Hermawan
